Decent Chinese food in Budapest
Yes, it does exist.
Today, to celebrate the last day of Chinese New Year, I met a bunch of Malaysians at Wang Étterem, in Zugló (the 14th district) for lunch that consisted of 16 dishes.
The pancake for the Peking duck was a bit too doughy, and the Hainanese chicken a bit on the dry side, but overall, this was a Chinese lunch like I've never had before in Budapest. There was fresh steamed fish, spicy tofu reminiscent of my trip to Szechuan, century egg with hot green peppers and tofu, sea cucumber with broccoli, crispy skewered prawns, and the compulsory varieties of meat on a hot plate and green veggies as well. A proper Chinese meal, in other words.
It added up to about 3,000 per person, though we only had tea and got a discount of some sort. I'll definitely be returning, and with a similar entourage!

Hi there,
ok first of all I must say that your blog is amazing. I am going to stay in Budapest for 5 days around mid-april. The thing is I am a 22 year old girl travelling alone and I just needed a woman's perspective on how safe the city is. I would appreciate any other advice on the city as well! Thanks in advance and once again superb blog! great going!
Carolina
jung - yes i heard; how was it?
unka - err about rm60 a person. about the same as KL, no?
carolina - thanks for the compliment. it's not more unsafe than any other city, and generally you're absolutely fine alone, even at night. i've had some unfortunate encounters but i think it was partly being unlucky and partly it being summer - everyone's a bit friskier.
check this out for stuff to do in budapest: http://hubeventsdiary.blogspot.com/ and when you're there, pick up a copy of timeout.
have fun!
