Bangkok House in Budapest

Since I've got back I haven't felt the urge to eat anything Hungarian. I've been so disconsolate about the eating situation I'm even cooking (read: assembling food at home) more, rather than disappoint myself with the eating scene.

But on Friday, I decided to snap out of it and went to Bangkok House, a Thai restaurant that I've heard some good reports about.

The decor is kitsch or vibrant, depending on how much palinka you've had. Service was attentive, and the food we had, pad thai, was good. However, my gripe was the fact that they added prawns to our pad thai without asking us if we wanted it, bringing the cost up to 3,000 forints, which is a bit obscene for noodles, and just plain cheeky of them to sneak that past us.

We let it pass, but I'll definitely be more careful next time!

On Saturday we went to Iguana. New menu, new prices. Ouch.

And I went to Mumus on Dob utca 18 twice this weekend. It has the same gravel, black and white drawings and holey barrel tables/lights as the old Mumus had. It's low-key and uncrowded, and a perfect spot to sneak your own hazi palinka in.
